I think the devs were totally trolling, and that this "sim" has no real redeeming value other than pure entertainment. That said, it did provoke a lot of controversy at the time, and thus I am happy that it has been preserved, if for no other reason than to one day prove that it did in fact exist. I did play it almost 20 years ago, and although it was mildly amusing in a morbid sort of way, it just wasn't much fun beyond that. I think that someone needs to re-make this someday.

@tuperroconchancletas, maxsecure isn't a virus, it's one of the antivirus vendors virustotal uses to scan files, and in this case it flagged the game as malicious. however, virustotal is prone to false positives, meaning it says something's malicious when it really isn't. oftentimes if only one or two obscure vendors flag it then in general it's most likely a false positive and is therefore actually safe.

All the years of public denunciation against this - I never knew about any of it until 5 minutes before posting couple days ago! I'm quite disheartened to hear Edward Kennedy called it despicable! I might be the spiritual father of this, and its intention was only to work out trajectories and virtual ballistics in order to try yet again a new method to understand why things looked like they did on that Zap video.
Years ago I woke up and the TV had been left on, and 3 or 4 times in a row I'd look at the TV right at the moment Kennedy was getting the head shot, and as I stood there stunned, it turned out to be a mystery show, wondering out loud about that day in Dallas.
I brought this topic up at a pretty popular board called Audioland and some games guys who spent the rest of their time working out 3D Studio Max, Maya and all those game makers eons ago.
If indeed this was my brainchild, to answer the question, crap like this started off as good intentions. I probably knew the game developers 4 years before this was public, but my loyalties still appreciate the game's official author and the good intentions that we all agree here eventually went south.
I absolutely won't have those bits and bytes on my computer because it's "evil".
Also what this "game" (I called it an historical sim) should do, is anytime your cross hairs intersect with any person who isn't a target, a cartoon should appear that says:
"excuse me, hi there, Lee Harvey Oswald here. You know people don't like me, but there's one thing I'd NEVER DO! You want to know what that is? WHAT YOU ARE DOING" LOL

It was MADE UP for the movie JFK. There is no pausing, turning or weird goings on. The bullets path is perfectly normal.

The game is rigged to convince players that the magic bullet is possible. And the biggest clue comes from looking toward the fenced area from the infield. The hill's elevation is far too high. It makes it seem impossible to get a frontal shot. Compare to actual Dealey Plaza pics. Total misrepresentation in the game.

Having played this when it was released, it's interesting to run across it again. People were pretty upset when this first showed up but honestly it's a really interesting educational tool and I took it as such at the time, as I think a lot of other people did. Looking at it as a simulator and not a game is fairly important, but I doubt most people see any distinction, especially when this particular subject is involved.
