A 5th Theme Park at Walt Disney World? Why It’s Needed, & What It Might Be! – Disney Insights (2024)

Not a rumor here, or even an attempt at click bait This is simply conjecture. But I believe and give evidence that the best thing Disney could do in the upcoming D23 conference in Anaheim is announce a new 5th theme park for Walt Disney World. We’ll share with you why that makes sense–and even seems plausible. Of course, we can’t discuss a potential theme park without supposing some lands for such an experience. Such attractions would have to stand on their own without sabatoging its existing parks. What would a 5th theme park at Walt Disney World look like, and how would it be a fix to many problems the resort is facing? This podcast looks at this and more.

The outline for this podcast along with photos and more are below. But the podcast carries the narrative and is available onPodbean,iTunes,Spotify, andListenNotes. Please subscribe to the podcast and to this website so you can be notified of upcoming posts and podcasts!

Why Walt Disney World Needs a 5th Theme Park?

  1. Reservations are tight on many days. Disney could use another venue.
  2. Universal is setting up it’s third major theme park. Disney needs to further distance itself as the premiere and bigger resort.

  1. Disney needs a way to sway the state of Florida that it needs the Reedy Creek Investment District to get this park built. In other words, throw Florida a carrot. This is a similar approach comparable to what Disney is doing with Disneyland Forward.
  2. Every CEO wants to make their mark. Walt Created Disneyland. Roy created the Magic Kingdom & Walt Disney World. Card Walker created Epcot. Michael Eisner created Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disneyland Paris, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Hong Kong Disneyland and more. Bob Iger created Shanghaî Disneyland. Bob Chapek needs a park.
  3. Bob Chapek needs fans on his side. The right park will get that favor.

An international park takes 10-20 years to develop. A domestic park could be built in 5-7 years. Note that this is the first time that a major new park has not been announced and in the works for decades now.

Possible Themed Lands

The title isn’t as important as the offering. It could be something like Disney’s Storybook Adventures. Just as long as it gives Disney the flexibility to present a number of themes and concepts. There are many possible themed lands and attractions. Some are similar to themed lands in other international parks. Let’s consider the following:

Mickey Boulevard

There is no Toon Town. You could have a very playful entrance comparable to Mickey Avenue at Shanghaî Disneyland–only better.

  • Main Entrance to the Park
  • Primary Retailer
  • Opportunity for Unique Meet ‘n’ Greets
  • Big Entertainment Theater.

Indiana Jones Outpost

It’s such a popular intellectual property. Disney needs a whole themed land around this and one of the best attractions ever created. Think of Lost River Delta meets the mountain peek of Adventure Isle.

  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Raging Spirits
  • Camp Discovery

Discovery Point

Similar to Discovery Bay by Tony Baxter. It’s simply a chance to provide a venue with a steam punk style aesthetic.

  • Nautilus 20K Experience
  • Mystic Manor
  • Adventurer’s Club

Star Wars Moon of Endor

So many critics have called out Disney for not having built a land based on the original Star Wars stories. This is their opportunity to do so, in the same vein that there are multiple lands in different parks based on Harry Potter at Universal Orlando.

  • Endor Speed Bike Coaster
  • Camp Discovery
  • Water Raft or Flume Style Attraction or Shanghai Pirates attraction.

Marvel

An entire park could be dedicated to Marvel if Disney had the rights. But Disney is locked out of using the Marvel name as well as some 300 characters. Still, there are other possibilities–enough to make an interesting land.

  • Shang Chi
  • Eternals
  • Big Hero Six

Fantasy Bay

There is only so much space in Fantasyland for Fantasy style themes. Why not create another Fantasyland, but tie it to water similar to what’s occurring with Fantasy Springs at Tokyo Disney Sea.

  • Moana
  • Tangled
  • Peter Pan

Other

  • Zootopia
  • Incredibles
  • Fox Properties like Madagascar
  • Something Attached to the Metaverse
  • Something That is more of a Nighttime Experience

Also, attached hotels that border the park or are adjacent would do well to create greater revenues.
